Madame Web Trailer Receives Mixed Reactions From Fans

The next film in SONY’s efforts to create a Spider-Man Cinematic Universe aka Spider-Verse released its first trailer earlier this week. Madame Web stars Dakota Johnson as the titular heroine with Sydney Sweeny, Celeste O’Conner and Isabela Merced as other female Spider-Women characters as they battle Ezikiel Sims (Played by: Tahar Rahim).

However the initial teaser didn’t receive the receptions that SONY was probably hoping for as the trailer currently sits at 125K dislikes to 80K likes, as 60% dislike ratio. Most complaints revolve around the film’s cheap look with the effects and costumes. The film reportedly has a $75 Million budget and it shows.

Many people are also drawing parallels to the MCU’s latest film The Marvels with it being an all girl super hero team. With the poor taste of that film still fresh in people’s mouths they might see this as a similar experience with the “girl power” theme.

Another subject brought up, while not as prevalent, is the fact that multiple characters, Ezekiel Sims and Mattie Franklin are race swapped from their comic book counterparts. Ezekiel Sims was originally an older caucasian man with white hair while Mattie Franklin was a young caucasian brunette.

Lastly the trailer seems to line up with the supposed “leaked plot” of the film that came to over a year ago. The film will allegedly revolve around the main cast of heroines stopping the main antagonist (who traveled from the future) from preventing the birth of Peter Parker aka Spider-Man. Actor Adam Scott will reportedly play Richard Parker (Peter’s father) and Emma Roberts will play Mary Parker (Peter’s Mother).

If the leak is true then the film sounds like a knock-off of the Terminator series with the villain trying to alter the future by killing the mother/parents of the future hero.
