Lucasfilm Hasn’t Used the Star Wars Twitter, Facebook or Instagram Accounts in Over a Week.

By Thom Pratt / April 11, 2021 / 3 minutes of reading

Today was Daisy Ridley’s birthday. Many on Twitter were wishing the Rey actress a happy birthday.

But the official Star Wars Twitter account was silent.

Yesterday Hasbro announced a slew of new Star Wars action figures as part of their Fan Fest 2021 event.

But the official Star Wars Twitter account was silent.

In fact, the official U.S. Star Wars Twitter account hasn’t posted anything since Thursday, April 1. The last post was an announcement of a Star Wars version of The Odyssey.

Contrast this with the Star Wars UK Twitter account, which had posted much more recently — about two days ago.

So what’s going on here?

Other Lucasfilm run Star Wars social accounts have also been suspiciously silent, including Facebook and Instagram. Both of them stopped posting approximately the same time as the Star Wars Twitter account.

As of writing this article, the last Instagram post was on March 31, and the last Facebook post was identical to the Twitter post, and on April 1.

The Star Wars YouTube channel continues to post content, but it’s mostly getting downvoted to oblivion like most of their previous videos.

The blog on StarWars.com has been fairly active as well, but none of those articles have been pushed on social media.

It’s possible that whoever is in charge of those accounts is simply taking a break, or Lucasfilm didn’t feel it had much to post.

But again, Daisy Ridley’s birthday isn’t something you’d think they would ignore (even if they ignored several other OT actors) and you would think they’d want to at least retweet some of Hasbro’s announcements.

But nothing. Silence.

Now Disney was reportedly looking to hire a new social media manager for Star Wars, but that was several months ago and you’d think that position would’ve been filled by now.

Or was it… and it didn’t go well?

Remember, it was only a couple of months ago that the Krystina Arielle situation exploded, with a Star Wars Twitter post throwing gasoline on the fire. And the Star Wars Twitter account was called out for ignoring the birthdays of actors like James Earl Jones, while making a point of celebrating others.

Perhaps… perhaps… a higher up at Disney wasn’t happy with how Star Wars social media is being handled these days, and Lucasfilm is already looking for a replacement.

Or not.

Of course that could just be my tinfoil Mouse Ears acting up. Someone must’ve revved up the microwave again.

Either way, it’s odd for a brand like Star Wars to go radio silent for this long. Especially when there’s so much Star Wars news to tweet about.

So what’s up?

Vader finds your lack of faith in social media disturbing.
