Krispy Kreme adds apple cider doughnuts and football dozens

Krispy Kreme is adding an Apple Cider Original Glazed Doughnut and a Fall & Football Dozen starting September 10. A limited deal gets you a dozen apple cider doughnuts for $5 with any regular dozen, but it expires Sunday.

Krispy Kreme is putting apple cider in the Original Glazed, and giving away a cheap dozen to get people through the door.

The chain announced two new items Wednesday, both arriving at participating shops Thursday, September 10.

The Apple Cider Original Glazed Doughnut is built on apple cider dough, spiced with cinnamon, then finished with the same glaze the company has used since 1937.

The $5 deal expires Sunday

Buy any regularly priced dozen, and you can add a dozen Apple Cider Original Glazed Doughnuts for $5 through Sunday, September 13.

You have four days to get two dozen doughnuts, and one dozen is $5.

Krispy Kreme has not said whether the deal applies to online orders, delivery, or in-shop purchases only, so anyone planning around it should check with their location.

What’s in the Fall & Football Dozen

Twelve doughnuts across four varieties:

  • Four Football Doughnuts, shells filled with white Kreme, dipped in chocolate icing, finished with white icing laces
  • Three Pumpkin Spice Cake Doughnuts, Original Glazed Old Fashioned cake with pumpkin spice
  • Three Original Glazed
  • Two Maple Cheesecake Doughnuts, filled with cheesecake Kreme, dipped in maple icing, topped with graham-flavored crunch and a maple drizzle

The timing lines up with kickoff

These launch on the 10th, which is the day after the NFL regular season opens.

Alison Holder, Krispy Kreme’s chief product and brand officer, tied the launch directly to that.

“Fall is full of rituals people look forward to, apple cider, game day, watch parties and sharing moments with friends,” Holder said. “We’re giving fans a delicious new way to celebrate the season, whether they’re heading to a tailgate or settling in for kickoff.”

Krispy Kreme keeps betting on apple

When Krispy Kreme launched its Autumn Seasonal Collection in August, the lineup included an Apple Crisp Latte alongside the expected pumpkin items. That landed in the same fall that Starbucks left its apple crisp drinks off its own menu, setting off a familiar round of complaints from customers who had been ordering them for years.

Now Krispy Kreme is adding an apple cider doughnut on top of it.

Most chains treat fall as a pumpkin season with apple as a side dish. Krispy Kreme has spent this one building an apple lineup while a much larger competitor stepped back from the flavor.

Whether that is deliberate or convenient timing, the company has not said. The result is the same either way.

Where to find them

The chain operates more than 1,400 locations worldwide, including over 340 in the United States, alongside a much wider network of grocery and convenience partnerships.

Availability varies by shop, and Krispy Kreme has not announced an end date for either item beyond the September 13 cutoff on the $5 promotion.

Pumpkin will be there through Halloween. The cheap apple cider dozen will not.
