Jessica Alba as Sue Storm (Invisible Woman) in Tim Story's Fantastic Four Films

Jessica Alba Shares Thoughts on the ’00s ‘Fantastic Four’ Films

Long before Vanessa Kirby was cast as the MCU’s version of the Invisible Woman, another actor took on the role of Sue Storm in the Fantastic Four. The beautiful Jessica Alba played the part in 2005’s production and its 2007 sequel. Almost 20 years later, the actress has some surprisingly nice things to say about the Fox-era Marvel movies.

Speaking with Comicbook.com, Alba relayed her positive experience working on Tim Story’s Fantastic Four:

I loved it so much playing that character. I feel like my whole life started in a lot of ways at that moment. I met my life partner, we’re still together, we have three kids. Tim Story, who directed, is still one of my best friends. We have New Year’s Eve together. It was great and she was such a cool, inspiring character and ahead of her time, I would say, in the genre. And still, you still haven’t seen someone who is so nurturing and feminine, but then also a fearsome badass. I haven’t seen that combination again. And so I think she still fills this beautiful kind of space or void in the Marvel universe.

The pair of 2000s Fantastic Four flicks feels like a product of their time. While they capture some of the Jack Kirby-era fun, there were many missed opportunities. This was especially the case with Galactus.

And … to be honest, Alba’s performance in both films was OK. She may have positive memories of the production, but the thing I remember the most about both movies was her obvious blue contact lenses and the attempts to make Sue sexier than more brilliant.

I will admit, Alba was far more entertaining than watching Kate Mara’s magical disappearing/reappearing wig in Josh Trank’s FANT4STIC. Even the goofiness of Story’s movies was better than that trainwreck.

Jessica Alba isn’t the only one who has fond memories of their time on the set of a Fantastic Four movie. Yes, even the cast of the made-for-rights-purposes one from 1994 has its supporters.

I spoke with the original live-action Doctor Doom (Joseph Culp) a few years ago. Although our interview wasn’t centered on the unreleased Fantastic Four movie, Culp did express his desire to have another crack at the legendary Marvel supervillain. Check out the full interview below:
