Jamie Lee Curtis Apologizes For Calling Marvel Current Phase “Bad.” However Box Office Numbers Say She’s Right.

During San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC), Jamie Lee Curtis commented on Marvel’s recent films while promoting her upcoming “Borderlands” film. An MTV interviewer asked her which phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe we’re currently in, and she answered with “Bad.”

Now, it seems that she has been shamed enough to issue an apology for her joke, which I thought was funny and accurate.

She put out a statement saying,

My comments about Marvel were stupid and I will do better. I’ve reached out to Kevin Feige and will no longer play in that mud slinging sandbox of competition we call the internet nor will I engage in the toilet paper promotion or game play that is designed for clicks not content.”

While the “Don’t poop where you eat” philosophy is a good one, she wasn’t wrong if we go by the data.

Phases 4 and 5 of the MCU have not performed well. Since the end of Phase 3 with “Avengers: Endgame,” it has been hit and miss at the box office. Most of the ones performing better were Spider-Man or Guardians of the Galaxy films. Some movies like “Eternals,” “Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania,” and “The Marvels” performed terribly.

Only half of Marvel’s last ten MCU films have made over $500 million at the box office.

That isn’t good.

Based on reviews and actual tickets sold, Marvel is arguably in a “bad” place. Thankfully, “Deadpool & Wolverine” is performing well, but as many have pointed out, that is likely due to Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman and not Kevin Feige or Disney.

While she wasn’t incorrect, Jamie Lee Curtis apparently apologized for it anyway. Perhaps she was afraid she wouldn’t get calls from Disney anymore. She is going to star in the new “Freak Friday” film and the 2023 “Haunted Mansion” film as well. (To be fair, neither didn’t perform well, but it was good.)

What do you think? Should she have apologized for her joke?
