James Gunn Defends Chris Pratt from Twitter Users Who Want Him Fired from the MCU

No, Chris Pratt will not be replaced as Star-Lord in the MCU. At least not if director James Gunn has anything to say about it.

Chris Pratt is often under fire from Twitter cancellation mobs. This despite Pratt not having a very active presence on Twitter. He tweets only a few times a month, and mostly just to promote upcoming projects.

But the guy is often targeted nonetheless for his perceived political and religious views.

It would appear that Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn has had enough of it, and called out a Twitter user for putting Pratt in the crosshairs once again. User meghan 2.0 [she/her] suggested that Pratt should be replaced with Aquaman actor Patrick Wilson.

The tweet blew up on Twitter, as calls to cancel Pratt often do, and that’s when Gunn stepped in…

Gunn plainly stated that Chris Pratt wasn’t going anywhere.

“For what? Because of your made-up, utterly-false beliefs about him? For something that someone else told you about him that’s not true? Chris Pratt would never be replaced as Star-Lord but, if he ever was, we would all be going with him,” Gunn tweeted.

This isn’t the first time someone associated with Guardians of the Galaxy stepped into it with Twitter on Pratt’s behalf. Zoe Saldaña (Gamora) was called racial slurs by Twitter for defending her co-star from the outrage mob in 2020.

Pratt was being called “the worst Chris” of all the actors named Chris in the MCU because he didn’t attend a fundraiser for President Joe Biden. Pratt later clarified he wasn’t even asked.

The beginning of the campaign to “cancel” Chris Pratt seemed to start with an interview with Elliot Page (then Ellen Page) who accused Pratt’s church of being homophobic and transphobic.

Chris Pratt defended the Hillsong Church, saying that “It has recently been suggested that I belong to a church which ‘hates a certain group of people’ and is ‘infamously anti-LGBTQ.’ Nothing could be further from the truth.”

He continued “I go to a church that opens their doors to absolutely everyone. Despite what the Bible says about divorce, my church community was there for me every stop of the way, never judging, just gracefully accompanying me on my walk. They helped me tremendously offering love and support. It is what I have seen them do for others on countless occasions regardless of sexual orientation, race or gender.”

Weirdly, Pratt isn’t even the highest profile celebrity who has attended the church. Past members include the Kardashians and U2 frontman Bono.

James Gunn is no stranger to cancel culture himself. Gunn was initially fired from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 over some old jokes her made on Twitter, but was later reinstated by Disney.
