In 2021 the Walt Disney Company announced that they would be relocating Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI) to a new Florida campus in Lake Nona, Florida. Many WDI personnel located in California do not want to relocate to Florida.
Recently the Walt Disney Company has gotten themselves into a bit of a political mess when they tried to stay apolitical around Florida’s Parental Rights in Education Bill. After they didn’t publicly denounce the bill they were slammed until they did. Now that they have they are being slammed for doing it. (Which is why they should have stayed apolitical.) With the backlash on the Florida Bill, some WDI personnel used it as a chance to demand they not have to move to Florida.
It seems that the move to Lake Nona is still going forward for WDI. According to Blog Mickey, there have been some recent job listings for Imagineering with the caveat that the “team will relocate to Orlando, Florida in late 2024.”
Two jobs listed say “The New Experience Development Executive will report to the Portfolio Creative Executive – New Experience Development.. The team will relocate to Orlando, Florida in late 2024.”
One is for an Experience Development Executive.
Of course it is possible that they will just send some people to the new Florida location, but given the amount of money Disney has spent, it will likely move forward as originally planned.
