Goosebumps is a well-known series of books created in the early 1990s by author R. L. Stein to give cheap scares and laughs to kids between the ages of 8 – 12. The series consisted of 62 mainline books and numerous spin-offs, as well as a popular 1990s television series. The series was so popular that it even spawned a short-lived film series. Now, Disney has teamed up with the iconic franchise in an all-new series on Disney+.
So far, the series has been received relatively well by critics and audiences. The added production budget brings a new level of quality to the series that is vastly more technologically superior to the 90s series. But aside from giving fans of the series a breath of nostalgia this Halloween, it has seemingly affected the original book in a way. That being the price.
While many assume that since these books were everywhere, they’d be rather cheap through resellers. But it appears that some resellers are trying to take advantage of the nostalgia trip by selling books in lots for hundreds of dollars, some even in the thousands.
While it is true that the condition can indeed impact the price of some of these books, and certain issues may cost more than others, many of these big-time prices actually far exceed their true value. There are actually many other sellers online that sell similar lots for between $40 – $60. If you’re lucky, you can win an eBay auction for less than $40.
It should be noted that the prices for these books have indeed increased in prices within the past couple of years, so the price increases are not necessarily a result of the Disney+ series.

This idea of overpricing is rather similar to the time people thought that their Disney VHS tapes were worth hundreds or even thousands of dollars. Do not be fooled by online trends, even if there is a wave of nostalgia for a specific property.
If you do want to read these classic stories, it is probably best to try and find recent reissues at a local/online bookstore. They will last longer.
