Is Disney giving Hayden Christensen a stand alone Star Wars Darth Vader movie?

An unverified claim says he signed a multi-picture deal with Lucasfilm.

Something is happening with Hayden Christensen and Lucasfilm, and the rumor going around is the least interesting part of it.

The claim circulating this week is that Christensen signed a multi-picture deal with Disney and Lucasfilm, with a Darth Vader film in early development.

Where the Hayden Christensen Vader movie rumor came from

The account Culture Cave says it received a direct message from someone it believes is credible, claiming Christensen had signed. Star Wars accounts including Star Wars Meg and Star Wars Theory amplified it from there.

That is a private message to a fan account, relayed by other fan accounts. No trade has it. Lucasfilm has said nothing. Christensen’s representatives have said nothing.

Treat it as a report about a message, not a report about a deal. What would make it real is Deadline, Variety, or The Hollywood Reporter confirming it, or Lucasfilm announcing it.

Christensen has returned three times in four years

Here is the documented part, and it is a genuine reversal.

Christensen played Anakin Skywalker in Attack of the Clones in 2002 and Revenge of the Sith in 2005. Then he largely disappeared from the franchise for the better part of two decades, aside from a voice cameo in The Rise of Skywalker in 2019.

2022: he returned in Obi-Wan Kenobi, appearing in five episodes as both Anakin and Vader.

2023: he appeared in four episodes of Ahsoka, digitally de-aged.

2027: he returns for Ahsoka Season 2, premiering on Disney+ on January 20. His role expands to a Force spirit guiding present-day Ahsoka, plus Clone Wars-era flashbacks.

Three projects, each with a larger footprint than the last.

He is not just showing up, he is campaigning

Speaking publicly on August 27, Christensen pitched reuniting nearly the entire prequel cast for a live-action Clone Wars project.

That is an actor with an active Lucasfilm contract publicly lobbying for more work in the same era his next project already explores.

He has also been doing the promotional labor. He was a headline attraction at Star Wars Celebration Japan 2025, where he celebrated his birthday on stage and where Dave Filoni confirmed his Ahsoka return. He did press for the Revenge of the Sith 20th anniversary re-release, appearing at screenings alongside Samuel L. Jackson.

For a performer who spent years famously stepping back from Hollywood, that is a lot of visibility.

Ewan McGregor is doing the exact same thing

The pattern is not limited to one actor, which is what makes it look coordinated even if it is not.

Ewan McGregor spent this summer publicly asking Disney to let him play Obi-Wan Kenobi again. “I’m ready whenever they are,” he said on August 10. “They just seem to not be ready.”

Both prequel leads are on the record wanting more. Lucasfilm has announced neither.

Why a Darth Vader movie is plausible even without a source

Lucasfilm’s film slate has been thin. Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu finished around $345 million worldwide, which Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro acknowledged fell short of expectations.

Star Wars: Starfighter, with Ryan Gosling as Kade Auberon, arrives May 28, 2027. Beyond that the theatrical pipeline is largely unannounced.

Lucasfilm also recently passed on a droid film pitched by Paul King and Simon Farnaby, telling them it needed to feel more like a Star Wars movie.

A studio short on theatrical projects, sitting on its most recognizable villain, with the actor who plays him publicly available and publicly interested, is a situation where rumors write themselves.

What Hayden Christensen fans should actually watch for

The first is Ahsoka Season 2 on January 20, and specifically how much material Christensen gets. An expanded Force-spirit role that functions as a backdoor pilot for something else would tell you more than any DM.

The second is the trades. Multi-picture deals with actors at this level do not stay quiet, and they get reported when they close rather than when someone hears about them.

Until then, what exists is a pattern and a hope. Christensen has spent twenty-four years playing this character. He has said the affection people have for Anakin means a lot to him, and that returning this many times after this long a gap is unusual.

He is right about that. Whether it turns into a movie is a separate question, and nobody outside Lucasfilm can answer it yet.
