Disney and Pixar have a win with “Inside Out 2.” The Pixar sequel has finally passed “Frozen 2” to be the top-grossing animated film, not counting the “Lion King” remake, which earned $1.65 billion in 2019. Since it was a computer-generated film, many aren’t counting it as an animated film.
Until now, “Frozen 2” held the title of “highest-grossing animated film” with its $1.45 billion worldwide total, but “Inside Out 2” beat that with a $1.462 billion global total.
This also makes “Inside Out 2” the 13th highest-grossing film of all time. Now, Disney has about nine of the top-grossing films under its umbrella.
“Inside Out 2” was released almost six weeks ago, on June 14, 2024. Since then, the film has made $601 million domestically and $861 million internationally. It has yet to be released in Japan, with an opening date of August 1, 2024. Which means the total is just going to keep increasing.
The big question is, When will “Inside Out 2” be released on Disney+?
Disney has decided to extend the theatrical release for “Inside Out 2,” so we do not know when the film will finally come to Disney+ or be streaming.
A much needed win for Disney.
Disney desperately needs the box office win as most of their films in 2023 lost money, with only “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3” and the live-action “Little Mermaid breaking even and coming out ahead.
Most of Disney’s films lost money, including “Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania,” “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” “The Marvels,” “Wish,” and “The Haunted Mansion.”
Hopefully, “Inside Out 2” will be the first of many box office hits for 2024, with “Deadpool & Wolverine” and “Alien: Romulus” coming in the next few weeks. “Moana 2” will be released near Thanksgiving, and “Mufasa: The Lion King” will be released in late December.
2025 doesn’t seem to be as promising, but every win helps.
