Information Released About New “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure” Show At Hollywood Studios

Disney is releasing a bunch of information today on the Disney Parks Blog and at their media event. Among the reveals was more information on the upcoming “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure” coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

This new show is going in the closed theater that once held the previous “Little Mermaid” show called “The Voyage of the Little Mermaid.” That show closed down when the parks shut down in 2020 for the COVID Pandemic. When the parks reopened that show never did.

Disney has just revealed some more information about the new show coming.

The show and theater are being revamped with new songs, sets, puppets, live performers and more. Don’t worry the blacklight puppets will return along with the use of modern technology according to James Silson, show director.

We’re using some really cutting-edge tools like motion capture technology, which you may have seen used in blockbuster films. Basically, we have a live performer in a suit covered in sensors, and the data captured from their performance helps us create a digital animation of the character, which our animators then use to bring them to life on stage.

Silson says that the show will integrate live performance and technology to create magic for the audience,

We’re really blending the line between real and digital in ways we’ve never done before to completely fill the stage for these show-stopping scenes. You’re going to see these large new physical set pieces we’ve created blend seamlessly with a digital environment in a way that really fills the stage. You’ll see digital puppets transform into real ones right before your eyes. You’ll even see animated characters performing in the same space as real actors. It’s going to feel like magic!
