The last Indiana Jones film, ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’ has finally gotten a release date for Disney+. This comes after the film wasn’t well received and didn’t perform nearly as well as expected at the box office.
“Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” will debut on Disney+ on December 1, 2023.
This film only did better than one of the other five ‘Indiana Jones’ films, but when adjusted for inflation, it definitely did the worst.
- Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull ($790.6M) adjusted for inflation, it would be over $1.1 billion.
- Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade ($474M) adjusted for inflation, it would be over $1.16 billion.
- Raiders of the Lost Ark ($389.9M) adjusted for inflation, the film made over $1.3 billion.
- Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destinty ($383.9M.)
- Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom ($333.1M) adjusted for inflation, it would be over $986.7 million.
As you can see “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” is actually financially far behind the other films.
One theory about why the fifth film might not have performed was that fans were waiting for a Disney+ release date. It really could have played into the lower box office numbers. Disney has seen this with other Marvel releases as well as “The Little Mermaid” and “Disney’s Haunted Mansion.”
It is possible fans were waiting for streaming. However, I don’t think that was the only factor, but it could be at least partially responsible for the lower box office.
If you missed it in theaters or you watched it already and want to catch it again, you can do so on Disney+ in a month!
