Original Cast Returns — With a Few Changes

The revival brings back much of the original Wilkerson family cast. Frankie Muniz reprises his iconic role as Malcolm, now in middle adulthood. Bryan Cranston returns as Hal,  Malcolm’s father, and Jane Kaczmarek is back as his formidable mom, Lois.

Also returning are Christopher Kennedy Masterson as Francis, Justin Berfield as Reese, and Emy Coligado as Piama. The character of Dewey has been recast, with Caleb Ellsworth-Clark stepping in for Erik Per Sullivan, who chose not to return to acting.

Newer additions to the cast include Keeley Karsten as Malcolm’s daughter Leah, Vaughan Murrae as the previously unmentioned younger sibling Kelly, and Kiana Madeira as Malcolm’s girlfriend, Tristan.

What is the new show about?

The show is set almost 20 years after the original series concluded its seven-season run from 2000 to 2006. Malcolm is now living an independent life with his daughter. The premise centers on Malcolm being drawn back into his family’s antics when Hal and Lois request his presence for their 40th wedding anniversary celebration.

Fans familiar with the original series know that the Wilkerson household was a constant source of chaos and humor, and the show aims to capture that same spirit while exploring how the family has grown, changed, and stayed the same over the years.

When and where to watch

“Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair” will stream on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ beginning April 10, 2026.  The rest of the “Malcolm in the Middle” series (all 151 episodes) is also currently available on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+.
