Universal has just released the full trailer for their live-action “How To Train Your Dragon” film and it does look amazing! I am one of the people who are tired of the live-action remakes of animated films, but this one works. It works well.
It’s perfect timing with the opening of Epic Universe, so that was masterful marketing right there.
Here is the trailer!

Of course, it’s too early to say that the entire film is perfect, but from what we see, it is well-acted, and the CGI is done well.
They somehow managed to do what Disney isn’t able to.
Characters will have deeper relationships and the action scenes were made more immersive according to the director Dean DeBlois,
“I myself am not a huge fan of the animation-to-live-action trend. Universal wanted to revisit this story. It’s like, ‘We’re going to do it. Let’s try to do it right.”
That first movie was made in a rush, and I’m super proud of it, but there are things that we could have done even better. My attitude was, let’s not throw the baby out with the bathwater. We still had time and money to go a little deeper with characters, to enrich the experience, to make the action scenes, the flying, more visceral, more immersive, but also make the character relationships a little richer and deeper.”
DeBlois is the perfect choice, as he was the co-writer/co-director of the franchise. So, his deeper dive into the characters would likely feel more authentic.
The film stars Mason Thames as Hiccup, Nico Parker as Astrid, Gerard Butler reprising his role as Shoick the Vast, Nick Frost as Goober, as well as Julian Dennison, Gabriel Howell, Bronwyn James, Harry Trevaldwyn, Ruth Codd , Peter Serafinowicz, and Murray McArthur.
“How To Train Your Dragon” will be released to theaters on June 13, 2025. Guests can visit the Isle of Berk at Epic Universe starting on May 22, 2025.
