My kids practically grew up and Disney theme parks, and this story has been something that has amused them this week. As many of you know, “It’s Tough To Be A Bug” in Disney’s Animal Kingdom was recently replaced with the new “Zootopia: Better Zoogether!” show.
While the show was redone, a lot of the queue was not. Disney must have wanted to save some cash, so they just changed our signs, posters, and repurposed parts of the “It’s Tough To Be A Bug’s” queue. This includes repurposing the Dung Beetle poop ball.
Instead of removing it, Disney has covered it in paw and hoof prints and is calling it a “Unity Ball.”

Talk about a load of …..
Seriously, though, my guess is that the “dung ball” was a structural element that couldn’t be removed. Instead of covering over it or adding more theming to the area, they simply added prints and said it was “soil from each of the biomes in Zootopia” and called it a “Unity Ball” or “Paw Pact.”
Disney didn’t go to a lot of trouble to retheme the queue and likely saved quite a bit of money, which is a win for them. Some are not happy about it.
However, most people aren’t fazed by the changes at all.
My kids and I just found it incredibly amusing that the poop prop now has what are essentially handprints all over it and a funny backstory.
That is how Disney took a dung ball and turned it into a symbol of unity.
