Henry Cavill Became Ill Following Deadpool & Wolverine Shoot

One of the things that many are talking about from the new Deadpool & Wolverine film was the number of cameos and appearances made by various actors and actresses. Most of them were former Marvel actors playing their old pre-MCU roles, such as Wesley Snipes as Blade and Chris Evans as the Human Torch. But one cameo stood out as a surprise to many, that being Henry Cavill.

Cavill is perhaps best known for his run as DC’s Superman from 2013 – 2022, beginning with Man of Steel, followed by Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and then Justice League. His final appearance as the character was in a post-credit sequence to 2022’s Black Adam before the old DCEU was erased in favor of a new universe headed up by James Gunn and Peter Safran.

After Cavill was forced to hang up his cape, many superhero movie fans wondered if he would join Marvel. Some names like Captain Britain or Hyperion were suggested, but one of the more popular ideas was to be the new Wolverine. Well, fans got a taste of that as Cavill appeared as a Wolverine variant in Deadpool & Wolverine, but he was on screen for roughly 30 seconds.

While many fans were happy with his appearance, and Cavill himself was reportedly on board, the experience was probably not what he was expecting. In an interview with the New York Times, director Shawn Levy said that Cavill unfortunately became rather sick as a result of the shoot.

I think we all were, including poor Henry Cavill, who not only had that pumped-up muscular body but kept that cigar lit and in his mouth for the entirety of the shoot day. I remember hearing the next day that Henry was sick to his stomach because he had been inhaling cigar smoke for eight hours straight, but never once did he waver.

While the character of Wolverine is known for smoking cigars, Cavill was not used to the cigar smoke. Thankfully, he got better. Perhaps they should have used a vape disguised as a cigar?

What did you think of Cavill’s performance as Wolverine? Should he return in a future movie? Or would it be best if he remained a cameo? Let us know your thoughts.
