‘Hamilton’ Coming to Disney+ In Time For July 4th

Disney has announced that Hamilton will come to Disney+ on July, 3rd instead of waiting for the original October, 15, 2021 theatrical release date. Bob Iger and Lin Manuel Miranda announced it on Good Morning America this morning. My kids are thrilled! They love that musical and sing the songs from time to time. When I told my daughter she cheered.

The version that will be shown will be a “live-capture recording” with the original Broadway cast, that was filmed in June 2016 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre in New York City.

Featuring: Lin Manuel Miranda as Alexander Hamilton, Daveed Diggs as Marquis de Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson, Renée Elise Goldsberry as Angelica Schuyler, Leslie Odom Jr. as Aaron Burr, Christopher Jackson as George Washington, Jonathan Groff as King George, Phillipa Soo as Eliza Hamilton.

A lot of people are really excited about this and I’m sure this is going to boost Disney+ numbers as well. But they reportedly spent $75 million for the worldwide rights to the film. I’m sure it will still come to theaters after they spent that much money. For now, at least, we can catch it on Disney+ on July 3rd! I know my kids will be watching for sure.
