Good News About Character Meals at Walt Disney World (and One Concern)

The concept of Disney characters hugging your child brings joy to many Disney fans. This image brings joy to many. The characters at Disney theme park resorts create genuine excitement. Some advertising makes it look like characters just wander around being easy to see. Walt Disney World fans know that rarely if ever happens. Character meet and greet opportunities usually involve a sizable queue.

One way to avoid these queues revolves around booking a character meal. If meeting a specific Disney character rates as a top priority for your vacation, then booking a character meal could save you time in a queue. I mean, you must eat, right? How about a meal and a character meet and greet all at same time? In most cases, you will meet multiple characters at these designated character meals.

Speaking of which, Walt Disney World announced characters will be returning to three more dining options. Disney Parks Blog announced on July 6th that “some of our guest-favorite restaurants are gearing up to welcome popular pals back, including Stitch for breakfast at ‘Ohana at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, Minnie, and her friends for breakfast at Cape May Café at Disney’s Beach Club Resort, and Winnie the Pooh and friends at The Crystal Palace in Magic Kingdom Park for both lunch and dinner.”

The friends from the Hundred Acre Woods will be returning to The Crystal Place in the Magic Kingdom. This happens starting September 20th.  The ‘Ohana Best Friends Breakfast featuring Lilo and Stitch comes back on September 27th. Guests can hug these characters at this Polynesian Resort restaurant starting on that date. Trust me, I have more to say about that later. The third character meal restarting resides at Disney’s Beach Club Resort. Cape May Café will add to their all you care to enjoy buffet some characters starting October 4th.

This all sounds like good news. However, I have one concern. In about a month, I have a reservation for breakfast at ‘Ohana. I used a service that specializes in providing mouse dining to get the exact time I wanted for breakfast. Also, I will be dining there for $25. For a theme park resort all you care to eat breakfast, that makes great value. A similar breakfast over at Universal Orlando would cost more.

Now, I know my breakfast buffet will cost $25. However, how much will it cost once the characters come back? Based on other character breakfasts currently running at Walt Disney World, the expected price will be $42 for a character breakfast. Is an expected $17 a good value to enjoy characters.

That decision depends on your group. I suspect that most families with young children still provide good value. I guess we will have to wait on those prices to be announced. If you love Disney characters, you get more choices now. Please enjoy. As always, eat like you mean it!
