The Japanese giant monster Godzilla recently celebrated its 70th Anniversary with the first film, Gojira aka Godzilla: King of the Monsters, releasing on November 3rd, 1954. The character has starred in nearly 40 films and has become a pop culture icon appearing on television, comics, video games and more.
Last year’s Japanese produced film Godzilla Minus One became one of the most successful in the franchise, even winning an Academy Award for best visual effects on a mere $15 Million budget. Since then the film’s director Takashi Yamazaki has confirmed that he will be returning to the franchise with another movie, but has not clarified if it will be a direct sequel to Minus One.

However, that isn’t all that Takashi Yamazaki has been up to.
It appears that the director has had talks with Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige. He stated that he spoke with Feige and seemed to imply that Marvel wanted to work with him in some way.
“Feige told me, ‘We’re all having meetings every day to see if we can make it happen like that.”
However, Takashi said that he believed it was just lip service of them trying to be nice.
On the other hand, this could be a sign that Marvel may be looking at a project to try and appeal to the Japanese market like they did previously with heroes like Shang Chi attempting to appeal to China. Having a well respected Japanese director take on such a project could bring some attention to it. One of Marvel’s more well known Japanese based heroes is the X-Men character Sunfire.

With not much known about the MCU post-Sceret Wars they may be planting the seeds of what might be their third cinematic saga.
What do you think? Will Takashi Yamazaki come aboard the Marvel train? Or will he go back to making more Godzilla? Let us know your thoughts.
