A new Glee series is officially coming to Disney+ and Hulu from 20th Television. Ryan Murphy says a script is written and about 10 original cast members are interested.
The New Directions are getting back together, in some form.
Disney+ and Hulu have ordered a new Glee series from 20th Television, according to Deadline. Disney announced the news Wednesday, Oct. 21, 11 years after the original show ended.
No cast, plot or premiere date has been announced yet.
What do we know about the Glee reboot?
Not much yet. Disney hasn’t shared a logline, episode count or release date, according to TheWrap.
Good Morning America described the project as an all-new season of Glee. The new series comes from 20th Television, the same studio that made the original.
Who is making the new Glee?
The original creators. Ryan Murphy said in September that he, Ian Brennan and Brad Falchuk had finished a script, TheWrap reported.
It’s not clear yet how the three will split showrunning duties, or whether Disney will bring in a new showrunner.
Is the original Glee cast coming back?
No one has been confirmed. Murphy said he has reached out to about 10 original cast members, and that they were excited about the idea, according to TheWrap.
He told ABC News he had “been quietly having conversations with people on that show“ about a return.
What did Chris Colfer say about a Glee reboot?
He’d have a hard time saying no. Chris Colfer, who played Kurt Hummel, told Bustle that fans would “come after me with pitchforks and jazz hands if I said no,” according to Geektown.
Who was in the original Glee cast?
The show starred Lea Michele, Matthew Morrison, Jane Lynch, Chris Colfer, Amber Riley, Kevin McHale, Jenna Ushkowitz, Darren Criss and Dianna Agron, among others.
Cory Monteith and Naya Rivera, two of the show’s original stars, have since died.
When did Glee originally air?
On Fox from 2009 to 2015, for six seasons and 121 episodes. The musical comedy followed the glee club at William McKinley High School in Lima, Ohio.
The show turned pop hits and Broadway songs into big musical numbers, and many of its covers became chart hits.
How many awards did Glee win?
A lot. Glee earned 32 Emmy nominations and won six, plus four Golden Globes, according to TheWrap. It also won the GLAAD Media Award for outstanding comedy series in 2010 and 2011.
Where can you watch the original Glee?
On Hulu. All 121 episodes of the original series are streaming there, according to Good Morning America.
Hulu content is also available in the Disney+ app for bundle subscribers, so it’s a good time to rewatch before the new series arrives.
Did Glee have any spinoffs?
Yes, a couple. Glee: The 3D Concert Movie hit theaters in 2011, following the cast on their live concert tour.
There was also The Glee Project, a reality competition on Oxygen where young performers competed for a guest role on the show.
What other Ryan Murphy shows stream on Hulu?
Several. Murphy’s long-running FX anthology American Horror Story streams on Hulu, along with his FX series Grotesquerie.
His legal drama All’s Fair, starring Kim Kardashian, premiered on Hulu in 2025.
When will the Glee reboot premiere?
Disney hasn’t said. With a script written but no cast announced, the new series is still early in the process.
Murphy has been busy with other projects, too. He hasn’t shared a timeline for production on Glee, but he did hint at his excitement last month. “It’s fun just to try,” he told ABC News.
