GameStop Hunting For Vandal(s) “Mislabeling” Star Wars Merch

Whenever you hear the words “Star Wars” and “GameStop” mentioned in the same sentence, it is usually regarding a pre-order for the next Star Wars video game or that their clearance section is full of unsellable sequel trilogy items. Well, in this instance, it appears that someone decided to have a little fun with the lightsabers.

In what is most certainly meant to be a practical joke, at store location #1261, one piece of Star Wars merchandise, specifically a Darth Vader Mini Lightsaber Light, was given an extra sticker on the packaging that obviously wasn’t meant to be there.

The sticker read “For Rectal Use Only,” which is clearly somewhere you should not put it. The joke is a play on the age old stereotype that lightsabers look like adult toys. A picture was taken of the item with the sticker on it and shown around the web. It isn’t known if any more pieces of merchandise were given similar stickers.

Following the image’s spread online, GameStop issued an official statement on its social media in response to the situation.

The official GameStop X Twitter page provided a “Submit anonymous tips” link. However, no reward was offered for any tips. That’s too bad because it would have made it a true bounty hunt like in Star Wars. They probably would have just been given a GameStop gift card anyway.

However, less than 24 hours after the statement was made, all posts on GameStop’s social media regarding the incident were deleted. Perhaps someone at Disney or Lucasfilm requested (demanded) that the post be taken down so as not to draw attention to the situation. Or perhaps the culprit was found out, and thus, the hunt was called off.

Whatever the case, this person really knew how to be a pain in GameStop’s butt.

What do you think? Was it just a harmful joke? Or was the public statement justified? Let us know your thoughts.
