Free Guy Director, Shawn Levy, To Direct Deadpool 3

Canadian born director Shawn Levy has been tapped to direct the third Deadpool film. Shawn Levy is known for comedies such as 2002’s Big Fat Liar, 2003’s Cheaper by the Dozen remake, 2006’s The Pink Panther reboot, 2010’s Date Night, 2013’s The Internship and the Night at the Museum trilogy in 2006, 2009 and 2014. He has also directed more serious films such as 2011’s Real Steel starring Hugh Jackman.

Outside of film Levy has also worked in the world of television on shows such as The Famous Jett Jackson, Last Man Standing and even directed 8 episodes of Stranger Things while also serving as an executive producer.

Shawn Levy had worked with actor Ryan Reynolds on 2021’s Free Guy at 20th Century Studios and 2022’s The Adam Project for Netflix. This will be the third film in a row that the two will be working together.

Recently in an interview Levy stated that he wanted to do a “Bromance” movie with Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman:

What we want is to fold it all in together and make a big, fat bromance sandwich of a movie, because the world wants the Hugh Jackman-Ryan Reynolds movie. I don’t know exactly what it’s going to be, but I know it needs to be me who directs it.

Some believe that his statement indicated what he and Reynolds possibly have planned for the third Deadpool film. For years Ryan Reynolds has tried to get Hugh Jackman to put the claws on one more time because he really want to see Deadpool and Wolverine team up. Perhaps it is too early to make the call but with a number of former Fox X-Men actors like Patrick Stewart and Evan Peters making appearances in MCU projects perhaps 2017’s Logan won’t be the last we see of Jackman’s Wolverine.
