I just got back from watching “Freakier Friday” with my daughter, and we had a blast watching the film. I thought it was as good or better than the 2003 version, but my daughter still prefers the 22-year-old version.
It’s a fun and heartfelt movie full of more generational misunderstandings.
The cast was great.
We saw the return of Lindsay Lohan as Anna Coleman, along with Jamie Lee Curtis as her mother Tess.
Also returning from the 2003 version were Chad Michael Murray as Jake and Mark Harmon as Tess’s husband Ryan. Short appearances were also made by Ryan Malgarini, who played Anna’s brother Harry, and Stephen Tobolowsky, who played Anna’s English teacher Elton Bates.
Christina Vidal and Haley Hudson also return as Anna’s Pink Slip bandmates Maddie and Peg.
Rosalind Chao is back as Pei-Pei, the Chinese restaurant manager, along with Lucille Soong as Pei-Pei’s mom. I’m so glad they got so many people to return.
New to this film were actors Julia Butters as Anna’s daughter Harper, Manny Jacinto as Anna’s fiance Eric, and Sophia Hammons as Eric’s daughter Lily.
Everyone did a fantastic job in this film. The younger actresses were believable as the adults, while Lohan and Curtis nailed being the teens.
What is it about?
- Anna is working as an agent/producer in the music industry after giving up music when she became a single mom.
- Tess is still a therapist in the modern world and a great pickleball player.
- Anna meets Eric, and they want to get married, but their daughters do not get along.
- At Anna’s bachelorette party they meet the fortune teller like in the commercial and they all switch places.
- When the switch happens, Anna switches with Harper and Lily switches with Tess.
- The girls are unhappy about their parents getting married, so they decide to sabotage the wedding.
- Once again, hearts must be changed, but it isn’t Anna and Tess’s relationship that is the big problem.
If you liked the first one with Lohan and Curtis, you will like this one. I really enjoyed it and look forward to watching it again. Being a mom makes it even better.
I’m also happy to see Lindsay Lohan return after she had some trouble over the years. Go her!
Overall, I give it an 8.5 /10. It was fun from start to finish.
