EPCOT CommuniCore Plaza and Hall Opens And Parks Fans Are Unimpressed

Disney has finally opened their new CommuniCore Hall and Plaza, which has completed their EPCOT overhaul. Unfortunately, many park fans are unimpressed with the outcome, saying the space is too open, bland, and boring. Frankly, it is.

The most interesting thing about it is the lighting at night.

This new space seems open and sparsely decorated with tables and plastic chairs.

Some compare it to prison cafeterias, the Magic Kingdom utilidors, and airports.

Why does it look this way? What is the space for?

Now, I feel it is important to state that this space is meant to be sparse and neutral because it will be used as a flex space for EPCOT festivals. That was the intent, and in the concept art, we can see what they claim it will look like doing an event like the Festival of the Arts.

I think Disney deliberately kept it bare so it can be turned into anything they want. Sadly, they won’t have a festival again until the very end of August when the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival returns.

If, by then, the space still sucks, well, they have no excuse. But given the massive downgrades of late and attractions that keep breaking, like Journey of Water in EPCOT or even Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in the Magic Kingdom, it’s understandable that Walt Disney World fans don’t have their hopes up for this space.
