Disney park fans are in an uproar, and rightfully so, after a man describes what happened to him while waiting in line for Space Mountain in Walt Disney World. If true, this further solidifies the “Disney Karen” nickname.
What Happened?
According to Nicktron03 in the subreddit “traumatizeThemBack,” he recently had a run-in with a “Disney Karen” while waiting in line for the attraction. Apparently, the woman thought his being solo in line was “creepy” and confronted him about it.
Here is what he posted:
So I (32M) was at Disney World last week. For context, my wife and daughter were supposed to be with me, but my wife got COVID two days before our trip. Since everything was non-refundable and my wife insisted, I went solo to not waste the tickets.
I was in line for Space Mountain when this mom behind me started loudly asking her husband why “some grown man would come to Disney alone” and how it was “creepy.” I tried ignoring it, but she actually tapped my shoulder and demanded to know why I was there without kids.
I turned around and said, “My wife and 6-year-old daughter were supposed to be here, but my wife tested positive for COVID. Would you rather I brought them and infected everyone here?”
The look on her face was priceless. Her husband looked mortified and pulled her away to a different part of the line. The cast member who heard the whole thing gave me a free fast pass for another ride.
Just because someone’s alone at Disney doesn’t mean they’re up to something weird. Sometimes life just doesn’t go as planned.”
First of all, just because someone is alone in line does not mean they are alone on their trip. The assumption made by her was ridiculous to begin with. Sometimes other family members don’t want to ride something and they go do something else while one person enjoys an attraction.
Secondly, many people make solo trips to Disney parks. Some are single, and others just love having some fun “me time.” Some go to remember significant others or family members. My husband used to go alone all the time because he was at the parks, covering media events or news. It isn’t weird or creepy at all.
Why do these people always think that Disney is only for children? Some of the best customers Disney has are adults, grandparents, etc. A lot of people enjoy Disney parks at any age and having children with you is not a prerequisite.
Thirdly, mind your own business. It isn’t your job to police the theme park, lines, etc.
The internet agrees with him, and so do I.
Disney parks are for everyone. Children are not a requirement for attendance and one person in line isn’t going to make your wait time that much longer.
