Disney’s new collectibles are almost all mystery boxes now

Mystery figures at $14.99, mystery plush, three mystery pin series and blind box pins at Hot Topic all landed within two weeks. The medallion machines want $35 for a set of four.

Disney Store put a new line of mystery figures online this week, and they are the clearest example yet of where Disney merchandise has gone.

Six characters, one box, and no way to know which one you are getting until you open it.

Count what else is out right now and the pattern gets hard to miss. There are mystery plush, three separate mystery pin series, a blind box pin set at Hot Topic, and new medallion machines in two Walt Disney World parks selling gold-tone coins one at a time.

What are the new Disney Parks Foods mystery figures?

Every figure pairs a character with a park snack. Mickey comes in a popcorn box. Miguel from “Coco” has a churro. Minnie holds a candy apple, Spider-Man has a pretzel, and Stitch gets a Dole Whip.

The sixth is the good one. Chewbacca with Batuu Blue Bantha Milk from Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, which is a deep enough cut that anyone pulling it probably earned it.

Six possible figures at $14.99 apiece means a complete set runs $89.94, and only if you never pull a duplicate. Nobody never pulls a duplicate.

How much are the new Disney medallion machines?

$10 for one medallion, or $35 for all four in a set.

Two new machines turned up at Disney’s Animal Kingdom this weekend. One sits outside Riverside Depot near the park entrance, with a tall blue frame, wood-look panels, a touchscreen and tap-to-pay. The medallions are gold-tone, sealed in clear plastic cases, with the Tree of Life and the Animal Kingdom wordmark on the reverse.

That set is safari-themed. Mickey and Donald ride a safari vehicle with Goofy and Pluto, Donald explores with a camera at sunset, Goofy carries a map in safari gear, and Mickey crosses the savanna with a camera of his own.

The second machine is outside Mombasa Marketplace and Zuri’s Sweets Shop in Africa, built in wood and teal to match the architecture. Those are Lion King Conservation Fund medallions, with Simba and Mufasa on the savanna, Simba with Nala, Timon and Pumbaa on Pride Rock, and Scar getting his own. The reverse carries the Disney Conservation Fund logo ringed by animal silhouettes.

A third new machine, this one Villains-themed, appeared at Disney’s Hollywood Studios the same day.

These are a long way from the penny press. A flattened penny costs 51 cents and takes a crank. These take a card.

What Disney mystery pins and plush just dropped?

Disney Wishables Shimmer Mystery Plush arrived in a Cats and Dogs Halloween series, four inches, limited release.

On the pin side there are new mystery collections built around ice cream, Marvel’s Avengers and fantasy flights, plus a Disney Animals and Food blind box pin set that showed up at Hot Topic this weekend. Halloween Club 33 pins are out at Walt Disney World, and Disneyland Paris got its own September pin release.

BaubleBar added Disney Halloween charm huggers, and there are new plush keychains featuring villain sidekicks along with Stitch dressed as various Disney villains.

For anyone who collects the oddities, Disney Store also put out a Guest Relations Cast Member Doll as a special edition for 2026, at 11.5 inches.

Is Disney already selling Christmas merchandise?

Yes, and it started this week.

Kendra Scott opened a pop-up at Disney’s Contemporary Resort selling Peppermint Mickey holiday jewelry, which is Christmas merchandise going on sale while the Halloween pins are still on the shelf six weeks before Halloween.

Why is everything a blind box?

Because the format sells better than the object does.

A figure you choose is one purchase. A figure you cannot choose is however many purchases it takes, and the manufacturer knows the odds while the buyer does not. Trading communities do the rest of the work, and the resale market on chase variants does the rest of the marketing.

The collectibles world has moved this direction generally over the last few years, and Disney has more characters to spread across a six-figure set than almost anybody.

None of that makes the Chewbacca one less fun to get. It just means the price on the box is not the price of the set.

A note for anyone who has been waiting on the Mickey and Friends football plush: that collection is soccer, and it came out through Disney Store Europe back in June.
