Okay. I’m likely going to get salty in this article. Warning you upfront. Disney is now trying to use Mara Jade to make some money. This is coming across as a desperate attempt to cash in on a fan base they flushed down the toilet when they bought Lucasfilm and made their sequel trilogy.
Who is Mara Jade?
For those who don’t know, Mara Jade is was a major character in the Expanded Universe. She was the Emperor’s Hand in the first sequel books back in the early 1990s. The books that everyone wished Disney would have used for the sequel trilogy – Timothy Zahn’s Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, and The Last Command.
Later on she became Luke Skywalker’s wife. A Skywalker who actually got the name legitimately.
Mara Jade was a powerful, important, and popular character for years until Disney decided to flush all of it.
Now, after they have completely decimated that franchise and fandom, they want to cash in on the character.
For $325 you can buy Mara Jade’s Lightsaber Hilt
Starting tomorrow, March 8, at 8AM PST / 11 AM EST fans can purchase one fo the very limited Mara Jade lightsaber hilts (blades cost more) from the Disney Store. The theme parks will also have them available at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World, and at Disneyland Park in Disneyland.
Her hilt will glow purple whe the lightsaber blade is attached.
They are limited to only 3,500 units.
The set will include a hilt, limited comic book with variant cover of Star Wars Mara Jade by The Emperor’s Hand #1, a numbered insert, wooden box that features a symbol that is half New Jedi Order and half the Empire. She worked for the Emperor before she turned to the light side.
Why am I salty about it?
I’m salty because they tossed her aside and now they want to cash in on her. I’m also worried that they will try to bring her into the movies or Disney+ shows. Back in 2017 I would have loved that, but not I am convinced the people in charge will completely ruin her. She was also famously ginger (like me) so I am concerned she will also get a race swap since Hollywood keeps doing that.
I would rather they never do anything with her than ruin her.
