Disney+ Subscribers Get Free ‘Star Wars Outlaws’ DLC

If you’re one of those people looking forward to Ubisoft’s Star Wars Outlaws and happen also to have a Disney+ subscription, then there will be free DLC ready for you on launch day! Sadly, the add-on is something you may not even notice.

Ubisoft‘s Disney promo allows subscribers to Disney’s streaming service to make a minor cosmetic change to Nix, the main character’s toyetic sidekick. Yeah…

Nix is a pretty small creature. Will you even notice this blue piece of the critter’s tail? In all honesty, what did you expect from Ubisoft?

Star Wars Outlaws has been getting much press and controversy before its August 30 release date. It started with the pricing strategy that appeared to try to push gamers to subscribe to Ubisoft+, which would grant full access to all of the game’s content instead of paying over $100.

Also, the Gold and Unlimited editions ($109.99 and $129.99) allow gamers to play “3 days early.” In reality, this means you get to play Star Wars Outlaws on Tuesday, which is the typical video game release date, instead of waiting until Friday.

Other weirdness occurred when journalists started covering a hands-on demo. Previews from sites like IGN showed off lackluster gameplay mechanics and graphics while the publications sang the game’s praises.

While this sounds like just another case of websites playing the media access game, it has been rumored that Ubisoft has been trying really hard to get YouTubers and gaming sites to give the upcoming title favorable coverage.

Sponsored content isn’t anything new when it comes to entertainment journalism. However, it also has the possibility of massaging the writer’s overall opinion. Yes, it does. Don’t try to deny it, IGN. I know. I’ve seen it first hand at other websites when I was asked to modify a review to appease a studio or director.
