Disney Scores Six Oscar Wins

Disney scored six Oscars last night at the 94th Academy Awards.

Best Animated Feature Film – Encanto

Encanto won for best Animated Feature Film beating out two other Disney films, Luca and Raya and the Last DragonEncanto tells the story of Mirabel Madrigal and her magical family. Encanto is now streaming on Disney+.

Best Costume Design – Cruella

Cruella won for Best Costume Design for Designer Jenny Beavan who also won the BAFTA, Critics Choice, and the Costume Designers Guild Award for her work on Cruella as well. Cruella is now streaming on Disney+.


Best Supporting Actress for West Side Story – Ariana DeBose

Ariana DeBose made history winning her Best Supporting Actress Oscar as the first Afro-Latina and openly queer woman of color to win the award. Rita Moreno won the same award for her performance of the same character, Anita, in 1961. West Side Story is now streaming on Disney+.

Best Actress for The Eyes of Tammy Faye – Jessica Chastain

Jessica Chastain won the Oscar for the titular character in The Eyes of Tammy Faye which is now streaming on Hulu.

Best Make-up and Hairstyling – The Eyes of Tammy Faye

For taking on the many looks of Tammy Faye Bakker, The Eyes of Tammy Faye took home the Oscar for Best Make-up and Hairstyling. This movie was produced by Searchlight Pictures which is owned by Walt Disney Studios.

Best DocumentarySummer of Soul (…Or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised)

This highly acclaimed documentary, which has won a total of 55 award since its release, was produced by Searchlight Pictures. This film is about the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival. This film was directed by Ahmir “QuestLove” Thompson, the drummer for The Roots. QuestLove and The Roots are the house band for “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” weeknights on NBC. Summer of Soul is now streaming on Hulu.

Walt Disney Pictures had a great night at the Academy Awards on Monday night.
