Disney Rumored To Make Magic Kingdom TV Universe Starting With SEA- The Society of Explorers and Adventurers

This is actually exciting to me. The Hollywood Reporter has reported that Disney wants to do a Magic Kingdom TV Universe on Disney+ and they are teaming up with Ron Moore for this endeavor. The very first project they want to do in this new “universe” is based on SEA or “The Society of Explorers and Adventurers.”

Moore, known for Syfy Channel’s “Battlestar Galactica” would write and executive produce the project for Disney+ and 20th Century Television and will work closely with Disney Imagineering.

According to the Hollywood Reporter:

The idea, per sources, is to explore characters — like sea boat captain from the Jungle Cruise or prospector from Big Thunder Mountain or the climbers of the Matterhorn, for example — as part of the world of The Society of Explorers and Adventurers. (To be clear, none of those characters or storylines are currently on the table at this stage.)

In addition to Disney’s Imagineering team (who were featured in their own docuseries on Disney+), Maril Davis and Ben McGinnis — Moore’s longtime collaborators at his Tall Ship Productions banner — are also attached to SEA and the larger Magic Kingdom Universe.

For those unfamiliar Disney has already set up this “society” in their theme parks across the globe. That’s why I’m so excited.

Here’s the history of the organization according to the Disney Fandom Wiki:

The Society was first founded on August 12, 1538 in Italy at Porto Paradiso. Consisting of scientists, explorers, researchers, artists, travelers and adventurers from around the globe, S.E.A. is dedicated to the continued exploration of the world’s oceans and exotic lands. Four guiding concepts are represented on SEA’s original Fortress Explorations crest: Adventure (represented as a Galleon), Romance (an Armillary Sphere), Discovery (a Compass), and Innovation (Artist Tools), selected as the best ways to represent the original charter and mission statement, which simply read “We the Society of Explorers and Adventurers shall acquire knowledge through exploration“.

Here’s a great video explaining some of it!

Disney Fandom Wiki also has images of the various members:

Interesting that Jock Lindsey is in there. Could this put Indiana Jones in as a member in the future. We have the Jungle Cruise attraction changes and the film, could those tie in as well?

I haven’t been that excited about a lot of projects coming out of Disney, but this one has my attention. Of course nothing has been confirmed so it could all be nothing, but it could be something!

What do you think? Comment and let us know!
