Disney releases new trailer for Hexed

Walt Disney Animation released a new trailer for its upcoming film Hexed today. The trailer does offer a better look into the film that is releasing on November 25, 2026. Comments on the trailer seem to be grateful that the film is a new IP and not a live-action remake.

Disney released a new trailer for Hexed today, giving away more of the story and the world that Billie’s mom was keeping her from.

The story reminds me of Halloweentown with Sabrina the Teenage Witch thrown in. Also, the wizard’s house was totally inspired by Howl’s Moving Castle (which is my favorite book). Many are also comparing it to The Owl House.

Check out the trailer and take a moment of silence for the microwave.

What is Hexed about?

An official synopsis reads,

“In “Disney’s Hexed,” an impulsive and unconventional teenage girl named Billie Doe (voiced by Hailee Steinfeld) discovers secret magical abilities which, once unleashed, hurtle her out of suburbia and into a spectacle-filled journey through a vast witch realm called Hexe. Forced to team up with her cautious mother, Alice (voiced by Rashida Jones), they uncover family mysteries that could change the world of witches forever.”

The film also stars Walton Goggins as the three-eyed cat Beef Roger Crummchuk. Jodie Foster voices Queen Celeste, who seems to be the main antagonist -a witch trying to maintain her power.

Hexed is written by Jared Bush (Walt Disney Animation Studios CCO) along with Dana Ledoux Miller.

It is directed by Fawn Veerasunthorn and Jason Hand and co-directed by Josie Trinidad.

What are people saying about the trailer?

A lot of them are happy it’s an original film, with some asking people to go see it so Disney continues to make more originals. But the last original from Walt Disney Animation was Wish, and that one lost $131 million.

Other comments focus on the Easter Egg of the brooms from The Sorcerer’s Apprentice and condolences for the microwave.

Many feel that this trailer should have been released first because it gives more information about the film. Others have pointed out that it looks generic, and my husband said: “It looks more like an Illumination movie.”

Disney has been searching for new franchises to compete with Harry Potter, but I’m not sure this is it.

The original protagonist was a boy

Speaking of Disney looking for their own Harry Potter franchise, the original story had the lead as a boy.

In 2025, Jared Bush announced the film at Destination D23. In that pitch, the lead was a boy.

Bush said, “Hexed centers on an awkward teenage boy and his protective mother who discover that his weirdness is actually hidden magic, transporting them to a world where magic can run free.”

The original concept art has the same colors and vibe as the current version. Beef Roger Crummchuk, the three-eyed cat, is also featured.

It’s unclear why they gender swapped the lead role, but they did.

Opinions are still mixed on the recent trailer, but it does seem to have gotten more people interested.

Disney is going to need to ramp up the promotion on this film as it releases in just a few weeks on November 25, 2026.

Hopefully it does better than Wish.
