David Tenants returns as the time-traveling Doctor Who kicks off this weekend! The recently regenerated Gallifreyan will have his newest adventure premiere on Disney Plus and BBC.
Starting this Saturday, November 25th, you can catch the first of the three 60th Anniversary Specials. The Star Beast sees the Eleventh Doctor reuniting with Donna Noble (Catherine Tate) as he faces off against one of his earliest adversaries, the Toymaker.
60 years of Doctor Who will be celebrated with two more specials, Wild Blue Yonder and The Giggle, culminating with Ncuti Gatwa’s introduction as the Fifteenth Doctor. The final two specials will premiere on December 2nd and December 9th.
Neil Patrick Harris has been cast in the role of the Celestial Toymaker. The character first appeared during William Hartnell’s run as the First Doctor in 1966. At that time, the villain was played by Michael Gough, who we know today as Alfred Pennyworth from the original Batman trilogy that started in 1989.
Donna Noble’s return is most welcome, but it also undoes the weight of the Doctor’s decision to leave her behind after saving her life. It will be interesting to see how he circumvents the life-threatening event that could unfold if she remembers who the Doctor is.
The Celestial Toymaker lost his “game” to the First Doctor, which destroyed the Toymaker’s world. As the Doctor said in that episode, “If the Toymaker loses his game, his world would vanish, but he has the power to build a new one … The Toymaker is immortal …”
All this time, he has been waiting. Now, he is set to get his revenge on the Doctor. Will the Toymaker lose the game again and have to pay the price? We’ll find out soon!
