Disney Passed on Adam Driver Star Wars Kylo Ren / Ben Solo Film – “The Hunt For Ben Solo”

In a recent interview with the Associated Press, Kylo Ren / Ben Solo Actor Adam Driver said that Disney passed on a film based on his character of Ben Solo called “The Hunt For Ben Solo”.

He told the outlet that he wanted to do another “Star Wars” and had been talking about doing another film since 2021, after Kathleen Kennedy had reached out.

“I always was interested in doing another ‘Star Wars. I had been talking about doing another one since 2021. Kathleen (Kennedy) had reached out. I always said: With a great director and a great story, I’d be there in a second. I loved that character and loved playing him.”

Driver had an idea for a “Star Wars” film and worked with Steven Soderbergh on a concept that would take place after his character seemingly died in “The Rise of Skywalker”.

The story would have seen Ben Solo survive his “death” in the last film.

Soderbergh worked with Rebecca Blunt to outline a story that was then pitched to Kathleen Kennedy, Lucasfilm Vice President Cary Beck, and Lucasfilm CCO Dave Filoni.

Lucasfilm was interested in the movie, and it moved on to a script with Scott Z. Burns.

Driver was incredibly excited about the project, saying it was “one of the coolest (expletive) scripts I had ever been a part of.”

After the script was completed, they once again went to Lucasfilm,

“We presented the script to Lucasfilm. They loved the idea. They totally understood our angle and why we were doing it. We took it to Bob Iger and Alan Bergman and they said no. They didn’t see how Ben Solo was alive. And that was that.”

It was likely a decision based on the backlash from “The Rise of Skywalker” and Disney wanting to go in a new direction with “The Mandalorian” and other Disney+ shows at the time. Now they are again returning to Rey (which I do not think is going to work out very well).  Because they didn’t care that other characters were already dead and somehow returned (see the Emperor).

Soderbergh gave a statement about the project, saying,

“I really enjoyed making the movie in my head. I’m just sorry the fans won’t get to see it.”

Reylos and Kylo Ren stans are not happy about this loss, but others are fine with it.
