Disney has just announced another $1.99 a month for a three-month deal on Disney+ that ends a couple of days before the conclusion of the 2023-2024 fiscal year. It sounds like Disney needs a boost in subscribers and “profit” ahead of the next earnings call. But it’s a good deal for new and returning subscribers and just in time to boost numbers on Marvel’s upcoming “Agatha All Along” show.
The deal is for the basic Disney+ (ad-supported tier), offering $1.99 a month for three months, and then it renews at the increased regular price of $9.99 a month.
While it is a good deal, the timing interests me. Deals like this seem to hit near the end of Disney’s fiscal quarters. While it could be completely coincidental, it would help boost numbers ahead of the earnings call and financial and performance reports.
The lower price often appears ahead of a big Disney+ release, usually a Star Wars or Marvel show. Again, it could all be coincidence, but Marvel’s new “Agatha All Along,” premiering next week and the “Skeleton Crew,” premiering in December would be included in the September-December months this deal would cover. “Inside Out 2” will also hit Disney+ on September 25, 2024 and this deal could bring in new or returning subscribers.
Increased subscriber numbers would roll into the first quarter of 2024-2025 as well since Q1 runs from October 1, 2024 – December 31, 2024. Plus Disney wants to put out press releasing touting the huge viewership numbers for “Inside Out 2” and “Agatha All Along” and this gives them a better chance.
No matter what, anyone signing up is going to get a great deal.
