Disney Nominates Former Apple COO Jeff Williams To Their Board

The Walt Disney Company has reportedly nominated another person for its board of directors, even adding a new seat. But they couldn’t find room for Nelson Peltz or former Disney CFO Jay Rasulo?

Interesting.

So who is this new person?

The nominee is former Apple COO Jeff Williams, who just recently retired from the company. It’s also important to note that he was the COO and an executive since 2015 when Bob Iger was on the Apple board of directors (2011-2019), so it’s really convenient that this guy is being added with a brand new seat.

What would his “seat” be?

According to Disney’s press release, he is nominated to “stand for election as a new independent director at the company’s 2026 annual meeting of shareholders. The total size of the board will be expanded to 11, effective as of the election of directors at the 2026 annual meeting.”

Again, someone who is likely a friend of Bob Iger is being brought in ahead of naming a new CEO as a new “independent director”. I hope Bob isn’t going to try to micromanage the company like he did when he left last time, because that was a train wreck.

It is odd to me that this person is coming in and they are making a new seat for him when they refused seats to even an ex CFO of the company.

But it all has to be voted through by shareholders.

Here are the obligatory “rah rah” comments,

James P. Gorman, Chairman of the Walt Disney Company Board, said,

“Jeff Williams is a highly accomplished executive who for decades helped steward one of the most innovative and admired companies that serves billions of consumers across the globe. Jeff’s proven leadership and unique experience at the intersection of technology, global operations and product design make him a valuable nominee to our board as the company continues to focus on creative storytelling and groundbreaking innovation.”

Jeff Williams said,

“I have long admired Disney’s legacy of pairing imagination with innovation—leveraging new technologies in bold, creative ways to bring to life timeless stories and entertain its guests. It is an honor to be nominated to the board of this storied company. I look forward to working with Disney’s talented leadership team and contributing to the company’s ongoing journey of creativity and excellence.”

His position is likely going to go through as everyone seems to vote with Disney.
