Disney Needs To Address Queue Issues As More People Are Injured Over Assumed Line Jumping

Disney has a huge problem with its attraction queues. Line jumping or people accused of line jumping have led to many fights and injuries. Including a case where a man from the UK is accused of pushing a teenager, claiming to be trying to rejoin her party.

The problems stem from the abuse of this excuse and the length of lines caused by paid front-of-line privileges. Even free Fast Pass+ arguably caused longer wait times for the standard queue.

Most Disney fans know the play.

One or up to several people push through the line claiming they are trying to “rejoin” their party.  Usually, people who never went past you to leave the line to begin with, and they use the tactic to either get to the front of the line or to get to one friend who was holding the line while the rest of them were off doing something else.

It irritates the heck out of other guests who now have to wait longer as a group of several people pushes past them. Tempers flare, and that’s when a lot of fights break out at Disney Parks.

Sometimes people are truly trying to catch up to their group because a child had to use the restroom or something like that. Unfortunately, the other guests have no way of knowing if they had a legitimate reason to get out of line, and the rest of their party is waiting ahead.

Because, if we are being honest, there are many times when it is just a line-jumping technique. I have watched people go past me and then never join a “group” but move past dozens of other guests to get to a better spot in “front”.  I have also seen people legitimately meet up with their family because they needed to go to the restroom.

The new DAS rules might cause some issues

Now that those with disabilities are being denied DAS Pass, they are being told to have family members wait in line and for them to rejoin them later. I do think that Cast Members usually have areas for the parties to rejoin without pushing past other guests, but sometimes it still happens.

Disney needs a solution

I noticed that with some attractions like “Rise of the Resistance,” Cast Members out front would tell guests not to enter the queue until their entire party was present. A lot of people would send one fast person on ahead at rope drop and then try to push past everyone else in an effort to “rejoin their party.”

This may need to be enforced at all popular attractions to avoid issues.

If a guest needs to leave the line, there should be a couple of reentry/exit points where Cast Members could have people wait until their party comes to allow them back into the line. This would mean no guest needs to move over as others pass them.

Sometimes, guests waiting in line are injured by other guests trying to push past them as well. I have seen people fall or get shoved into others as several people push past to “rejoin their group.”

Disney Parks fans are getting sick of it, too

Here are some comments regarding the man allegedly shoving the teenager.

“Not shocked at all. The queue cutting is getting wild and people are getting upset. Sadly people abuse the system and tempers are going to flare up.“- K.K.

Maybe Disney needs to stop letting people cut the line. Also if she was catching up to her group why was the friend there to be a witness.” B.B.

if that person has a disability that causes them to have to use the bathroom unexpectedly, Disney I’d denying them DAS and telling them they can leave the line and then return. Disney caused this problem.” -D.D.

Okay but the line cutting is ridiculous. I get it, things happen and you have to leave line (kids need to go to the bathroom, coming from dinner, etc.) but Disney needs to have like a corral waiting area kind of like rider switch for people to wait instead of bulldozing their ways thru the line. It would save a lot of headaches and situations like this.” -J.C.

Maybe Cast members ought to issue a pass to leave the line and return. I understand bathroom breaks etc but it not fair for your “party” to wait 8n line then text you “hurry up, we’re almost at the entrance” I’ve seen groups of people cut the line while a friend waits in line holding space for them. It’s not fair, it’s not right and the privileged people need to stop this practice.” – J.H.

Both parties were wrong. He had zero right to touch her. She was cutting in line. Disney does have a big problem with this. People have had it.” – R. S.

Whatever Disney could do, they should do to avoid more fights and injuries

Given the number of injuries and fights due to queue behavior, Disney needs to do something to address the problems.

It isn’t fair to guests who have been waiting in line for hours to have more people push in front of them, either to get to the front or to rejoin one person holding the line for many.

This is a known issue that Disney isn’t in a hurry to fix.

Guests tell a Cast Member.

If this happens and you suspect line jumping, tell a Cast Member and don’t try to physically stop someone or push back. Honestly, it’s hit or miss if the Cast Member actually does anything, but getting physical will only result in you being trespassed or charged.
