Disney Is Praising It’s New “Story Living” Communities But The Prices Are Anything But Magical

Yesterday, the Disney Parks Blog posted an article promoting their new “Storyliving” communities and showcased the first one being built now, Cotino. However, magic is only for the wealthy, much like theme parks are now.

The blog post tries to show people the project’s current status and sell fans on the model homes being built in the California Coachella Valley.

We’re months away from the very first Storyliving by Disney residents moving into their new homes in California’s scenic Coachella Valley. Stunning mountain views, picturesque walks on the promenade and lively community parks await! 

But magic comes with a price and Disney magic is getting further and further out of people’s grasp.

How much does it cost to live in these homes?

The article first showcases these model homes built by Shea Homes.

Model Home

 

The one on the left is from the Cotino Agrarian Collection and features natural materials. On the right is a house from the Cotino Oasis Collection inspired by mid-century modern architecture.

These are both part of the Cottage series. Here is what we know!

These homes start in the upper $1 millions and will be in the Longtable Park 55+ area.

“Charming, single-family homes with inviting curb appeal make up this collection. With thoughtful floor plans and forward-thinking design, these homes will maximize space and celebrate outdoor living.

  1. Home site frontages approximately 50 feet wide
  2. Homes ranging from approximately 2,260 to approximately 2,820 square feet
  3. Floor plans featuring 2 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms
  4. Home features and finishes that meet Disney standards of excellence

The tiny ones start at “upper $1 millions.”

Prices just go up from there!

The Grand Collection

These homes start in the low $2 millions for a Shea Home. Mid $2 millions for a Davidson Communities home. 

The single-family homes of this collection will be a welcoming retreat evoking a sense of casual elegance. Generously proportioned floor plans and a seamless flow between the indoors and out. Home site frontages of approximately 60 and 70 feet wide

  1. Homes ranging from approximately 3,000 – 3,900 square feet
  2. Designs with 3-5 bedrooms and up to 5 bathrooms.

The Estate Collection

These homes will be made by Woodbridge Pacific Group and will start in the mid $2 million.

“This collection will consist of premier single-family homes with stunning front elevations serving as a hallmark of these remarkable residences. Grand gathering spaces, elegant outdoor living areas and a host of distinctive features, finishes and upgrades. Home site frontages approximately 90, 120 and 135 feet wide.

  1. Homes ranging from approximately 3,400 – 4,000 square feet
  2. Floor plans featuring 3 bedrooms and 3 full bathrooms.

Why build one when you can cash out on a bunch?

They want to do more of these and have already announced one in North Carolina as well. This one will include 4,000 units, and they will likely be similarly priced or higher.

I’m sure the house’s cost will only be part of the expense. Costs to use the amenities or annual fees will likely also be applied. If you want to use the clubhouse, you have to pay even more.

Like the theme parks, most people working on the project couldn’t afford it themselves. How many affordable housing units could Disney build for just a few of these homes?
