Disney Is Making Marvel Mini Series Connecting Their Star Wars Trilogy With The Return of the Jedi

It seems Disney is going to try even harder to solidify its “Star Wars” trilogy by tying it back to “Return of the Jedi.” Marvel is creating a new miniseries covering events between the original trilogy’s final film and the Disney trilogy’s first film, “The Force Awakens.”

Is this a good idea? Probably not. Will they tick off more “Star Wars” fans? Likely.

Marvel’s new comic four-issue miniseries “Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku – Insurgency Rising” is set to focus on the conflict after the fall of the Galactic Empire, alluded to in “The Force Awakens.”

Of course, they will use the classic trilogy characters to gain ground with the fans they lost after “The Last Jedi.”

According to series writer Alex Segura, the story starts with the aftermath of the Battle of Endor.

It’s an unbelievable honor to be able to tell this lost story of Star Wars history, alongside so many amazing artists, in the pages of the three Battle of Jakku limited series.

Our story will be epic in scope — involving all the major characters you love, plus some new, exciting additions to the mythos. We’ll not only give readers a front-row seat to the final battle of the Galactic Civil War — we’ll reframe the aftermath of the Battle of Endor and introduce a new, menacing threat that will keep our heroes guessing. The goal for all of us is to turn up the volume and make sure this adventure stands shoulder-to-shoulder with the other stories of the era. As the Empire collapses, a new darkness arises!

Leonard Kirk & Stefano Raffaele are the artists for these comics.

A synopsis of the story reads,

A Defiant Imperial takes center stage — and goes on the offensive against the New Republic! Leia makes a startling discovery in the forests of Endor! Who are the mysterious and deadly Acolytes of the Beyond?! What is the new villain’s connection to Darth Vader?

This feels like Disney and Lucasfilm’s attempt to reboot more “Star Wars” lore to fit their needs. It is an ironic choice, given that there has been a lot of talk about Disney taking “Star Wars” past the Skywalker saga and into new territory. Yet, they use “Return of the Jedi” and original trilogy characters as the lead for this series.

“Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku – Insurgency Rising” issue one will hit shelves on October 2, 2024. While I would love more stories with original trilogy characters, I am not interested in building up to Disney’s trilogy.
