Disney Branded Television has given the full go-ahead to Coven Academy, a supernatural dramedy created by Tim Federle, known for High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. The series, officially ordered in August 2025, is set to debut on both Disney Channel and Disney+ in 2026.

A Fresh Take on Teen Fantasy
Coven Academy centers on a coven of teenage witches-in-training attending a magical school in New Orleans. These young sorceresses must band together to confront and defend their town from a growing supernatural threat—melding elements of magic, mystery, and heartfelt teen drama.
From Pilot to Production
The show first took shape in March 2025 with a pilot order for Disney Channel and Disney+, written and directed by Federle under his multi-year overall deal with Disney Branded Television. Principal photography for the pilot was filmed in Vancouver, B.C., beginning June 2, 2025, and wrapping on June 17, 2025.
Official Statement and Creative Leadership
Disney Branded Television President Ayo Davis describes the series as a “thrilling, witty blend of magic, mystery and teen drama,” highlighting how it interweaves “supernatural intrigue with the friendships, challenges and self-discovery of the teenage experience.”
Tim Federle—writing and directing the pilot—brings his signature blend of heart and humor. He calls Coven Academy “a love letter to the genre of YA shows [he] grew up watching,” and expressed excitement about bringing the vibrant cast and supernatural world to life alongside Disney.
