Disney Given Partial Extension On Walt Disney World Cars Permits

Previously, we reported that Disney had run into some trouble with their permits for staging areas and the upcoming Cars-themed section, which is replacing Rivers of America.

After Disney filed the initial permit request, the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) requested clarification and changes, but Disney seemingly didn’t complete the changes satisfactorily. At this point, the SFWMD gave Walt Disney World a ten-day warning to complete the information or void their permit.

The SFWMD specifically had issues with stormwater basin modifications, water distribution, and how it would impact the wetlands.

The Central Florida Tourism Oversite District (CFTOD) requested a 60-day extension to get the paperwork and modifications complete, and it seems they were granted a month to make changes. Now, the new deadline is reportedly January 9, 2025.

A month is better than 10 days, but Disney has actually had since August to fix this issue.

Disney plans to add Cars attractions to the Magic Kingdom including an off-roading attraction.

The plan was originally to start construction in early 2025, so hopefully, this doesn’t hinder the construction too much. Although I would prefer if they didn’t destroy all of the Rivers of America but I digress.
