Disney Claims Mufasa: The Lion King Is #1 Film In The World. It Is, But There Is More To It.

Today, Disney posted a social media post that is making many people raise their eyebrows.

They claim that “Mufasa: The Lion King” is the number one movie in the world. Yes, right now it is, because “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” hasn’t been released in the global market yet.

The film is currently at about $122 million (With $87.2 million from the international market), and this is still well below the expectation of $180 million globally.

“Sonic the Hedgehog 3” has destroyed “Mufasa: The Lion King” domestically, but it hasn’t released world wide yet.

“Sonic 3” is beating the crap out of “Mufasa” domestically.  Disney is adding the global box office total to indicate they are winning and is the #1 film in the world this weekend. While technically true, it is misleading and sounds desperate.

This lead will likely be short-lived when “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” opens globally in most markets right after Christmas.

“Mufasa: The Lion King” already released in many of the countries that “Sonic” is still pending in.

If we want to compare apples to apples, we need to wait until “Sonic 3” actually has a wide global release. Until then Disney’s celebration is shallow and shortlived.

It was very premature of Disney to make that claim.

Now people on X say Disney is hiding replies.

I can not confirm if this is true, but many say it is.

If Disney is indeed doing this, it makes them look desperate to win and spin the narrative.

Frankly, if you are a family wanting to go to the movies, you have two films you can see. It’s a win either way.

That being said, I have no desire to see “Mufasa” because I don’t like the seeming retconning and I’m tired of live-action films. I do want to see Sonic, though.
