Disney CEO Bob Iger May Plan To Step Down Before Contract Expires

A new rumor indicates Disney’s CEO Bob Iger could step down before his contract ends at the end of the year. At least that is what the Wall Street Journal’s sources say.

According to them, Iger has privately told associates he intends to leave his role before his current contract ends on December 31, 2026. The Wall Street Journal reported that Iger has been signaling his desire to step away from the day-to-day management of Disney in the next several months.

It seems the Jimmy Kimmel debacle last year over his comments about Charlie Kirk, and the ensuing aftermath of Hollywood protests and Disney shareholders asking questions, helped Iger decide to leave early.

(Kind of like the Scarlett Johansson/ Black Widow residuals situation that Bob Chapek found himself in. The one where Iger reportedly refused to do anything to help.  Iger doesn’t seem to like it when Hollywood and investors question his decisions.)

This could explain the next CEO announcement rumors

Earlier today, it was reported that Disney could announce the next Disney CEO next week.

According to Variety, there is a Walt Disney Company board meeting next week to decide who that will be. The choices are allegedly Josh D’Amaro and Dana Walden, with D’Amaro the pick of Disney’s investors.

Iger will likely remain for a few months after a successor is announced.

Although the precise timing of Iger’s departure has not been set, people familiar with the situation is fluid. Disney insiders believe Iger will remain in his current position for several months after a successor is named, helping to mentor the incoming leader and ensure a smooth transition. There’s also the possibility that he could retain a role on Disney’s board or serve in another strategic capacity after stepping down as CEO.
