As seen in the video, which was originally posted to Reddit, the surrounding guests booed the the cast member for ruining this special moment. Allegedly, the guest had permission to get on the stage to complete his proposal.
With the amount of backlash that has occurred since this video was posted online, Disney has since apologized for the cast member’s actions. A Disney spokesperson told Newsweek, “We regret how this was handled. We have apologized to the couple involved and offered to make it right.” No word has been released on how Disney intends to make it right.
Proposals happen all the time around Disney parks almost daily. My husband proposed to me in front of Mickey and Minnie in Mickey’s Toon Town Fair in Magic Kingdom. Everyone was in on it including my friends present, Mickey and Minnie, and the Photopass photographer. My husband and my friend had already set up this in advance.
Online the negative comments are on the cast member that interrupted the proposal, and I get it. This is a special moment in your life, and you want it to go smoothly. However, it seems that the guests were on a stage that is for entertainment or cast members. Perhaps, the intervening cast member didn’t know that the guest had allegedly been given permission to propose on this stage.
