Disney and Oriental Land Co. Ltd To Bring Disney Cruise Vacations To Japan

For those who don’t know, Oriental Land Co. Ltd. (OLC) owns and operates the Tokyo Disney Resort, and now they want to do more. They have signed an agreement with Disney to build and operate a Disney-branded cruise business in Japan, much like they do with the Tokyo Disney Resort.

OLC wants to start by a Disney-branded cruise business in Japan by 2029. The ship they build will be based in Japan. It will be built by the same company that builds Disney Cruise Line ships- Meywer Werft.

This new ship will be a “sister ship” to the Disney Wish with about 1,250 staterooms. However, the sister ship will be modified to meet the needs of Japanese guests. I’m sure there are some cultural and lifestyle differences that could necessitate the changes to make the ship more comfortable for their target demographic.

From the announcement, this cruise business will be Disney-themed and will offer the same types of “…incredible entertainment, world-class dining and exceptional guest service that set Disney cruises apart.

The ship is said to be delivered to OLC in 2028 with the expected start of operations in 2029 and will cost about 330 billion yen.

How exciting for them! I bet they get Duffy and Friends on board and much cuter merchandise. (Why do the Asian parks have much cuter stuff than we get? It’s a pet peeve of mine!)
