Andor will introduce more familiar faces from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. One of those returning cast members could be a game-changer for the gritty science fiction series.
The first season of Andor was good (very good) but flew under the radar in comparison to other Star Wars shows. So, reintroducing one of Rogue One’s best characters could boost the PR of the Disney+ show.
We learned via Popverse that Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) dropped a big name at ACE Superhero Comic Con in Alamo City last week. The star teased fans with news of some returning players:
“I can tell you, Rogue One is coming, so there will be characters there that you will recognize. There will be cool stuff. For those who love Rogue One, this season is going to be very special. And it’s going to be fascinating to go straight to Rogue One after watching this second season, because you will see Rogue One from a different perspective. I promise you that.“
While Luna was playing coy, ComicBook.com saw that The Playlist had far more detailed news. Ben Mendelson (Imperial Director Krennic), who was rumored to have passed on a returning role, is, in fact, reviving the dubious member of the Galactic Empire.
Forest Whitaker could also appear as Saw Gerrera. Whitaker’s casting would be a great way to bridge the gap between what happened during Star Wars: Rebels and the state we saw him in during Rogue One.
It can be seen as stunt casting, but Andor needs it. In 2022, it was revealed that the show’s ratings were trailing behind The Mandalorian. The series wasn’t promoted similarly, which may have held it back.
The other issue may be that Andor is such a vast departure from other Star Wars media. It’s not an over-the-top adventure or Jedi-stuffed fanfiction. It’s a war drama.
