No Disney Didn’t Lose 23 Million Disney+ Subscribers Overnight Because of Elon Musk?

According to an article circulating, Disney allegedly lost 23 million subscribers due to Disney’s fight with Elon Musk over advertising on X (Twitter.)

Is it true?

No. It’s a satirical article from The Dunning Kruger Times. However, there are legitimate pushes for mass cancelation of the Disney+ service after Disney pulled advertising from X and Elon Musk told Bob Iger and other advertisers to “Go f*ck yourself.”

It would be impossible to know how many subscribers Disney+ lost until Disney released that information during an earnings call. One could not see the number “overnight” for sure.

However, people are campaigning for others to mass cancel their Disney+ service, leading to #CancelDisney,  #Disneyboycott, and #CancelDisneyPlus trending on X (Twitter.)

Many claim they are canceling because they are against censorship and “woke programming” from the Walt Disney Company. But I did notice that many comments indicated they had canceled their Disney+ membership months or years ago over other controversies like the firing of Gina Carano. It’s unclear how many more people will cancel their Disney+ subscriptions, but I’m sure there are many who are (just not 23 million.)

The only subscriber loss that massive Disney could see soon is if they sell Disney+ Hotstar, which would sell off over 40 million subscribers. While I am sure Disney is seeing cancelations of their streaming services over this, it is not in the range of 23 million. It certainly didn’t all occur overnight.
