Did Disney Klan Up Kids and Make a Short With Them Depicting the That “KKK?”

Today’s Disney outrage is based on social media posts showing what appears to be children wearing bags on their heads and having a KKK meeting. Did Disney Klan a kid’s show?

The answer is no. But it can definitely be argued that it is likely a parody of it. The KKK is clearly the inspiration, although it is not the one with white robes. It seems to be done in mockery.

Back in 1924, Disney directed a short called “Alice and the Dog Catcher.” Here Alice is presiding “over a secret club which proposes to rid the town of dog catchers and free the dogs!

The 12-minute short opens with children wearing paper bags over their heads with funny faces drawn on them. They are holding letters that spell out “KKK,” which in this instance means the Klik Klak Klub. Given the funny faces, they are likely mocking the actual “Klan.”

One of the children is shown after removing his mask, and he is black. So, it seems that the short was made to throw shade at the actual hate group. But it definitely missed the mark with the child’s mask that is a caricature of “black face.”

After this segment, it’s all about freeing dogs from the dog catchers.

TheDisneyChannelINL does have the short up on YouTube:

So, no, Disney did not portray children as those KKK members, but instead, they mocked the group. However, they did give the one child a stereotypical “black face” mask that would not be acceptable now. Another product of its time, that will be 100 years old next year.

I doubt this one will ever be aired on Disney+ for so many reasons.
