Deadpool & Wolverine Push Past $1 Billion At Global Box Office

Marvel’s “Deadpool & Wolverine” has pushed past the $1 billion mark at the global box office after only three weekends. While it still hasn’t beaten 2019’s “Joker” as the highest-grossing “R” rated film at the box office, it will soon.

Weekend estimates put “Deadpool & Wolverine” at $54 million domestically for a total of $494 million. Internationally, the total has hit $535 million, giving the film about $1.02 billion. This is still shy of “Joker” at $1.07 billion.

I think “Deadpool & Wolverine” will overtake “Joker” soon.

This is all good news for Disney, as they now have back-to-back films that have each earned over $1 billion! “Inside Out 2” is set to earn $1.6 billion soon! It is creeping up on the 9th largest box office film of all time,  the live-action “Lion King” at $1.66 billion.

Overall expectations for “Deadpool & Wolverine” put the film at about $1.4 billion by the end of its run. This is not enough to put the film in the top 10 biggest releases of all time, but it would put it in the top 15-20 films.

Disney’s box office success in 2024 is a refreshing change of pace after last year’s incredibly disappointing run. Most of Disney’s films in 2023 lost money, and only one or two were considered a “success.”

Looking ahead, Disney may have another juggernaut with “Moana 2” and possibly “Mufassa: The Lion King.” It is possible that they could end the year with 3-4 billion dollar box office films.

Time will tell. Disney needs as many “wins” as they can get at this point.
