Deadpool & Wolverine Dethrones Joker At The Box Office

Marvel is seeing green for the first time in a long while. Their latest crowd-pleasing film, Deadpool & Wolverine, has been hitting multiple records for the brand, becoming the highest grossing movie in the Deadpool trilogy, the highest grossing movie in the X-Men series, and the highest grossing R-rated Marvel movie.

Another record has been set as Marvel has now dethroned DC, aka “Those s**t f***s down the street,” as they called it. Deadpool & Wolverine has now taken the crown for the highest grossing R-Rated movie of all time away from the 2019 DC crime drama Joker starring Joaquin Phoenix.

The first Deadpool ($782.6 Million) in 2016 and Deadpool 2 ($785.8 Million) in 2018 both held the title for highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time. But Joker beat them to the punch with a $1.078 billion box office haul. The closest any other film has gotten to that was 2023’s Oppenheimer, with $976.9 Million.

Now, Deadpool is having the last laugh as it has taken back its crown and is still climbing the money pile. As of the writing of this article, the movie has crossed $1.143 billion at the global box office.

We can’t one hundred percent predict where the movie will end up when it ends its theatrical run, but it will be quite the threshold if anyone else tries to surpass it. While the Joker‘s upcoming sequel, Joker: Folie à Deux, is set to release in October of this year, not as many people seem excited about it as the previous film.

Hopefully, this won’t be the last time we see Deadpool in the MCU. With Secret Wars on the horizon maybe we will figure out why Thor was crying.

What do you think? Does D&W deserve this little victory lap? Or is it a bit overrated? Let us know your thoughts.
