Deadpool & Wolverine Becomes The Highest Grossing Film In The Trilogy

After two weeks in theaters, the third installment of the Deadpool trilogy has set multiple milestones. Deadpool & Wolverine, the final film in the Fox era X-Men franchise, has become the highest-grossing film in the trilogy, dethroning both of its previous installments.

The Deadpool fim series began in 2016 following a multi-year campaign by Ryan Reynolds attempting to make a more comic-accurate version of the character following the disastrous portrayal in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine. At the time, it became the highest-grossing film in the X-Men franchise, just beating out 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past.

The series continued with 2018’s Deadpool 2, which, surprisingly enough, beat the first film at the box office by a small margin. However, a PG-13 re-edit of the film Once Upon a Deadpool was released later that year, adding to the box office total.

Now, in just two weeks, Deadpool & Wolverine has surpassed both, making it the highest grossing film in the franchise. Not only that, but it is also the highest grossing R-Rated Marvel movie of all time, beating out both the Blade trilogy from 1998 – 2004 and the 2004 Punisher.

– Deadpool (2016) $782.8 Million
– Deadpool 2 (2018) $785.8 Million
Deadpool & Wolverine (2024) $824.2 Million (Currently)

Deadpool & Wolverine has now taken its spot as the third highest grossing R-Rated movie of all time after 2023’s Oppenheimer ($977 Million) and 2019’s The Joker ($1.078 Billion). If the film continues to dominate the box office over the next couple of weeks, there is a chance that it will dethrone The Joker as the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time.

While the future isn’t certain for Deadpool, Marvel has expressed being open to more R-Rated projects. The revival of the Netflix Daredevil series, Daredevil: Born Again, has potential to include the same amount of gritty action as its predecessor. And the upcoming Blade reboot is also said to be R-Rated.

What do you think? Will Deadpool & Wolverine go as far as dethroning The Joker? Or will it remain slightly behind? Let us know your thoughts.
